Pupil Premium
Our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement for 2023-24 outlines where the pupil premium funding for 2022-23 has been spent, how school is proposing to spend the funding for 2023-24 and what impact we expect the funding to have. The Pupil Premium Strategy is reviewed in the Autumn and Spring terms and funding allocated as part of the annual budget setting exercise.
Impact of Pupil Premium Funding on Outcomes for Disadvantaged Pupils
The school works closely with class teachers, parents and pupils to raise achievement for all vulnerable pupils through quality first teaching, intervention and support. Whilst our outcomes for PP pupils exceeds that of disadvantaged pupils across the Local Authority and nationally in the Year 1 phonics check and end of KS1 and KS2 assessments, our focus remains on closing the gap between disadvantaged pupils and other pupils at Buckingham Primary School.
Raising Achievement through the Pupil Premium Grant
The main barriers to achievement for disadvantaged pupils at BPS are:
- Limited access to opportunities and resources to broaden learning experience and raise achievement
- Poor language, English and maths skills requiring extra support
- Social/emotional/well-being difficulties requiring specific support
We have planned our spending carefully to ensure that it is spent to maximum effect. This includes:
- Making sure there is at least good teaching on a day to day basis
- Making use of data to create appropriate interventions
- Making use of research when evaluating interventions and considering the implementation of new interventions.
- Raising achievement through extended learning and enrichment opportunities
- Pastoral support which undertakes work to raise self-esteem, extend personal skill sets and support children to make appropriate choices in order to maximize learning opportunities.
We recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be disadvantaged or underachieving.
We also recognize that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We therefore reserve the right to provide support for any groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being disadvantaged alongside those funded by the Pupil Premium grant.
How do you apply for Free School Meals / Pupil Premium?
If you think that your child may be entitled to Pupil Premium, please complete a free school meal application form (available from the School Office).
It is vital that the application form is completed, even if your child is entitled to universal infant school meals, to allow the additional funding to be released to the school.
