History
‘There is nothing new in the world except the history you do not know.’
-Harry S Truman
Intent
We believe the study of History inspires children’s curiosity, encourages them to ask critical questions and also help with their own decision making and judgements. We believe that the study of History enables children to have a better understanding of their roots, the society in which they live and the wider world.
Implementation
At at Buckingham Primary school we use Kapow Primary to plan and teach our History curriculum. This ensures we are to providing a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum which encompasses British values and which ensuring the progressive development of historical concepts, knowledge and skills.
History is taught every other half term (each year group covers 3 different topics in a school year). These topics build on knowledge term to term and also year to year and also develops the knowledge and skills stated in the National Curriculum.
Impact
The impact and measure of our history curriculum is to ensure that children are equipped with historical enquiry skills, knowledge and concepts, in addition to guiding their attitude to historical events, which will enable them to be reflective and confident learners, ready for the KS3 curriculum. Through doing this, we aim to generate an excitement for historical enquiry, to encourage the children to become lifelong learners in the wider world. We hope that the importance placed on our History curriculum will spark children’s appreciation of the importance of studying events from the past.
